Second Half run held off in Home Opener against #1 Keiser

WEST POINT, Ga. (Feb. 11, 2024) - The Point University Men's Lacrosse team opened their 2024 campaign at the River Bowl Stadium where the Skyhawks took on #1 Keiser University in an Appalachian Athletic Conference Matchup with the Seahawks winning 17-11 over Point.  

The first period opened the Seahawks taking the first score of the game within a minute and one second to lead 1-0. Jeff Knapp returned the favor as the Skyhawks tied the game at one a piece. Point continued to come in hot as Shaun McLaughlin joined with his first goal of the season to put the Seahawks on their heels in the early going. Keiser followed with 10 consecutive goals through the first two periods to start a run that was eventually halted by Jeff Knapp's second goal of the game. The Seahawks went into the half leading 11-2 and started the third period with a goal in the first nine seconds to bring their lead to 10. 

The Skyhawks proved to not be out of the matchup as the following three goals came from Point's side with Jeff Knapp adding two goals and Aaron Mordarski sealing one. Thomas Val Alstine connected with Shaun McLaughlin for their fourth consecutive goal of the matchup to bring the score to 12-6. The Seahawks continued to hold their lead with the following two scored goals but Point continued to climb their way with three consecutive goals which came from Thomas Van Alstine, Shaun McLaughlin, and Jeff Knapp to trail 14-10 going into the fourth quarter. Keiser opened the scoring column in the fourth period with a goal to extend the lead five with hopes of halting Point of any other momentum their way. Thomas Van Alstine proved to continue his contributions as he scored his second goal of the evening for Point to trail by five with three minutes left. The Seahawks scored one last goal and held their lead to take the matchup with a final score of 17-11. 

In the Box 

Jeff Knapp led with five goals for the Skyhawks to pick up where he left off as he was named an AAC Player to watch. Shaun McLaughlin added three goals with his speed and effort. Thomas Van Alstine contributed two goals and two assists. In goal, Teagan Simons added 17 saves for Point.

The Skyhawks return to the River Bowl Stadium for a non-conference matchup against crosstown rival, Lagrange College on Wednesday, February 14th starting at 5:00 P.M.
