Men’s Lacrosse falls to Lourdes in neutral site game

MONTREAT, N.C. (Mar. 9, 2023) - The Point University men's lacrosse team returned to action on Thursday afternoon for a non-conference matchup against Lourdes University that was held at Montreat College, where the Skyhawks dropped the matchup with a final score of 13-4.

The Gray Wolves jumped on the scoreboard first with the first three goals to take the early lead with hopes of holding the Skyhawks to a shut, but Point did respond as Shaun McLaughlin connected with a Jeff Knapp to score their first and only goal of the half. Lourdes continued their offensive approach as the Gray Wolves poured on two more goals to end the first quarter with a 5-1 lead. The second quarter saw the Skyhawks go scoreless, but their defense improved by only allowing two scores from Lourdes, which would testify to their defensive game plan.

The third period showed the same result, with Point improving their defense with hopes of coming back from the 7-1 deficit out of the half, but Lourdes added more fuel to the fire by scoring their first and only goal of the quarter to bring their lead to seven. The Skyhawks did not allow another score in this quarter and would go into the fourth quarter hoping to find answers on the offensive end. The Gray Wolves continued to put the Skyhawks on their heels by extending their lead by scoring the first goal of the final period, but Point's offense started to make waves as Jeremiah Menzies scored the second goal of the game for the Skyhawks. Lourdes went on a 3-0 run to bring their lead to 12-2 with under two minutes left in the game. Jeff Knapp scored his second goal of the game, and Lourdes retaliated with their final score to lead by 10. The Skyhawks did not go down without a fight as Malyke Sillers scored the game's final goal as the buzzer sounded.
