Stevens named finalist for Jack Nicklaus Award

WEST POINT, Ga. (May 17, 2022) – Cole Stevens has closed out the regular season as the No. 4 golfer in the NAIA, and his efforts have made him a finalist for the 2022 NAIA Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award.

Stevens closed out the regular season by earning a spot on the All-Appalachian Athletic Conference first team and was most recently recognized on the NAIA PING All-Region South team.

Stevens carded eight top-five finishes in 2021-22. This season's most noteworthy performance came at the Maryville College Invitational, where he tied the school record for the lowest 18-hole score and set a course record. Stevens was a two-time AAC Golfer of the Week and has an adjusted Gofstat scoring average of 72.08.

The sophomore joins John Houk of Tennessee Wesleyan, Jack Maxey of Keiser, Jakob Stavang Stubhaug of Keiser, and Isac Wallin of Keiser as finalists for the Jack Nicklaus Award. The winner will be announced on June 5 at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, and presented by award namesake Jack Nicklaus during the final round of the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday.

Stevens and the Point University men's golf team are currently competing in the 70th annual 2022 NAIA Men's Golf National Championship in Silvis, Ill. Round one began Tuesday morning.
