Men's basketball drops their regular season finale against CIU

COLUMBIA, Sc. (February 18, 2023) – The Point University men's basketball team was on the road for a AAC conference matchup against Columbia International University (CIU) and fell 87-71.

The Skyhawks would score their first basket of the contest when Jack Gray would make a jump shot at the 18:39 mark to tie the game at 2-2. Javier Turner would be fouled on two drives in a row while going to the basket and would land all four free throws to make it 8-5 in favor of the Skyhawks. After a layup by the Rams to make it 13-12 in favor of the home team, Point would take a 30 second timeout. The Rams would go on a 10-0 run to make it 23-16 and would have their scoring run stop when Benjamin Ross would make a layup to make it 23-18 at the 9:17 mark. Both teams would exchange three-pointers under 4:50 left to play in the first half with the Rams leading 32-24. Jack Gray would hit a three-pointer with 1:31 left in the first, assist by Micah Fallin to make it 40-31 in favor of the Rams.  Theaplais Williams would make a layup with 15 seconds left on the clock. After that layup, the Skyhawks would head to the locker room for halftime, down 44-35.

 

Jack Gray would open the second half by making a jump shot to cut the lead to 44-37. Javier Turner would get a three-pointer the old fashion way to make it 44-40. Justice Hayes' three-pointer from beyond the arc would make the lead for the Rams go down to one-point at 44-43. Justice Hayes would make a three-pointer but would get fouled on the play. After Hayes would connect on his free throw, the Skyhawks would be down by a score of 58-53 with 12:17 remaining in the contest. The Rams would go on a 7-0 run to make it 67-55. The Rams would go on another run, this time being an 8-0 run that would end on a dunk from the Rams to take their lead to 75-58. After a three-pointer at the 2:10 mark by the Rams, that would make the score 84-66 and CIU would call a full timeout. RJ Selman would make a three-pointer with 44 seconds left to make it 87-71. The Rams would dribble the basketball out to end the game with the home victory with a score of 87-71.

Jack Gray led all Skyhawks scorers tonight with 20 points, while adding one rebound. Benjamin Ross would end the game with a double-double with his 12 points and 11 rebounds, while adding three assists.

The Skyhawks will finish the regular season with a 15-13 overall record and a 14-10 AAC conference record. Men's basketball will head to Kingsport, Tn this week for the AAC conference tournament.
