Men’s basketball flies past KCU

GRAYSON, Ky. (Feb. 14, 2022) – RJ Selman scored a career-high of 29 points to help the Point University men's basketball team defeat Kentucky Christian University Monday evening on the road.

Point's win over KCU was their final regular-season road game of the season.

The Knights opened the game with a 7-2 lead, but Point battled back, with a layup from Lorenzo Freeman Jr. tying the game at 11. Both teams were back and forth over the next minutes of play, but a dunk followed by a jump shot from Corey Bowen would give the Skyhawks the lead 18-14. The Knights brought the score back within two, but Selman and Ray Reeves would connect for back-to-back 3-pointers to help keep ahold of Point's lead.

With 5:31 remaining in the half, the Knights trailed by three, but the Skyhawks would close the half out on a 13-3 run to enter the break leading 41-28. Selman went right to work for the Skyhawks out of the break, sinking two free throws before connecting his fifth 3-pointer of the night. Reeves would go on to Point's lead out by 21 with 13:53 remaining as he connected for a triple to put the Skyhawks ahead by 21. The Skyhawks would continue to extend their lead out and end the game leading by 25.  

Selman's 29 points came off 10-13 shooting from the field and 5-6 shooting from distance. Selman was 4-4 from the free throw line and added six rebounds and four assists to his stat line. Freeman finished the night with 21 points; 12 points were from 3-point shooting, and he added five rebounds and three assists. Bowen recorded a double-double with 20 points and 13 boards. Jake Smith rounded out the Skyhawks in double-figure scoring with 10 points, adding six rebounds and three assists.

With Monday night's victory, Point advances to 14-14 (10-12 AAC). The Skyhawks will finalize the regular season with two games inside West Point Park Gymnasium. Point's next game will be against Milligan University on Wednesday, Feb. 16. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Point's final game of the season will be on Saturday, Feb. 19, against Tennessee Wesleyan.
