Skyhawks unable to overcome slow start, fall at Bluefield

BLUEFIELD, Va. (Dec. 1, 2021) – Senior Corey Bowen led the Point University men's basketball team with his second double-double of the season, but his efforts were not enough, as the Skyhawks fell to Bluefield University 72-61 in an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup inside Dome Gymnasium.

With the loss, Point falls to 6-5 (3-3 AAC).

Bowen led Point with 15 points and 11 boards, going 7-for-12 from the field. Jake Smith followed with 14 points, tacking on four assists. Sam Rees was the final Skyhawk to score double figures, as he recorded 10 points.

Both Point and Bluefield scored 37 points apiece in the second half, but the Skyhawks were 11-for-27 from the field in the first half and trailed by 11 at the break. Point jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but Bluefield would respond with a 19-2 run and never look back.

Up next, Point will travel to Truett McConnell for an AAC matchup on Saturday, Dec. 4. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
