Jake Deer announces 2021-22 recruiting class

WEST POINT, Ga. (Sept. 3, 2021) – Point University head men's basketball coach Jake Deer has announced his incoming 2021-22 recruiting class.

The Skyhawks welcome eight newcomers to an already elite squad, who will look to compete once again as a top contender in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.

The incoming class features Javier Turner, Jack Gray, Brent Gaither, Carlos Dixon, Theron Montgomery, Sam Rees, Gabe Casey and Kavon Williams.

Javier Turner

Position: Forward

Height: 6'11

Hometown: Omaha, NE

Previous School: University of Wyoming

Major: Marketing

From Deer: "We are elated to have Javier with us here at Point University.  Javier brings a wealth of experience from his time at the University of Wyoming and at Wabash Valley; he has a high basketball IQ and has the desire to be a part of our campus community here at Point University.  He will provide an inside presence on both ends of the floor and will serve as the anchor to our defense.  Javier makes us a better program and will help us take another step towards our end destination."

Jack Gray

Position: Guard

Height: 6'2

Hometown: Powder Springs, GA

Previous School: Brewton Parker

Major: Master of Business Administration

From Deer: "We are excited to welcome Jack Gray to our program here at Point University.  Jack was a tremendous leader and performer for his previous institution, and I expect him to be the same man with us here at Point University.  Jack brings high character, leadership, and a desire to elevate our program to the next level.  We are excited to have Jack here with us."

Brent Gaither

Position: Guard

Height: 5'11

Hometown: Jonesboro, GA

Previous School: Returning from 2019-20 season

Major: Master of Business Administration

From Deer: "We are excited to welcome Brent back to West Point.  Brent is an incredible leader both on and off the court and I am elated to have him back for this upcoming year.  Brent brings with him high character, a relentless work ethic, reliable shooting, and has the desire to help us take the next step as a program."

Carlos Dixon

Position: Guard

Height: 5'11

Hometown: Manchester, GA

Previous School: Returning from 2019-20 season

Major: Management

From Deer: "Carlos is coming back to us after taking a year off.  Carlos is a tough competitor and is a knockdown shooter for our program.  I am excited to see how—with dedication, commitment, and hard work—Carlos maximizes his potential with us here at Point University."

Theron Montgomery

Position: Forward

Height: 6'8

Hometown: Anniston, AL

Previous School: Marion Military Institute

Major: Business Administration

From Deer: "I am so excited about Theron and his potential as he develops here within our program.  Theron is a tremendous offensive rebounder, brings good length and mobility to our line-up, and can guard multiple positions.  Theron has a quiet confidence to him, and I am just excited to see him grow in his time with us.  Theron's best days are ahead of him!"

Sam Rees

Position: Guard

Height: 6'4

Hometown: Solsberry, IN

Previous School: Eastern Greene High School

Major: Business Administration

From Deer: "Sam came to us from one of my former assistant coaches—Bryce Bow—and I could not be more excited to have him here with us at Point University.  Sam is a perfect fit here at the University.  He brings with him a desire to be a part of our campus community; he has a ton of basketball potential the needs to be developed and has the desire to grow in Christ."

Gabe Casey

Position: Guard

Height: 6'4

Hometown: Cape Coral, FL

Previous School: Santa Fe Community College

Major: Marketing

From Deer: "I have followed Gabe for a couple of years and I'm really excited that he has made the decision to be a part of our program here at Point University.  Gabe is a player that can do a little bit of everything on the basketball court.  Gabe is a true competitor and will give our program tremendous depth.  I am excited to watch his growth in his time with us here at the University."

Kavon Williams

Hometown: McDonough, GA

From Deer: "Kavon comes highly recommended from—coaching veteran--Ron Radford as he served as a student-assistant coach at Southern Union College.  Kavon is very committed to his growth in the coaching profession and will be a key contributor in all aspects of our program.  We are excited to welcome Kavon to our program!"
