Game-Winning touchdown surges Women’s Flag Football past Florida Memorial

WEST POINT, Ga. (Apr. 11, 2024) - The Point University Women's Flag Football team returned to the field for a Sun Conference matchup against Florida Memorial University where the Skyhawks took the win with a final score of 7-6 to secure their first home win at the River Bowl in program history.

The Lions opened the gate with the first score with a passing touchdown but would be unable to score on the conversion bringing their lead to 6-0. The game remained 6-0 through two quarters as the Skyhawk defense forced the Lions to punt through the rest of the half. The action picked up in the second half as the Skyhawks started to catch fire with Maddy Motz adding multiple rushes for a first down. The momentum continued with Laynie-Grace Benefield leading the way on the defensive side of the ball with numerous flag pulls to help force a punt. Florida Memorial's punt set the Skyhawks in a great field position with hopes of finishing strong. Multiple passes to Ky'Leo Worriels and Leah Prather continued to have Point move the ball closer to the promised land. Coach Theseus Jackson waited for the right time for the play call that would change the game's landscape. Maddy Motz sprinted past the Lions to get into the endzone for the game-tying touchdown. With the game on the line, Point looked to take the lead on the conversion, which was displayed as Maddy Motz connected with Jordan Palmer to take the lead with a score of 7-6. Florida Memorial took the field for their final drive and added two completions to push their field position closer to the endzone. With the final play on fourth down, Maddy Motz jumped the pass for the game-winning deflection to end the game with a win in front of their home fans.
