Point University Cheer wraps up weekend at the SSAC Conference Championships

MARIETTA, Ga. (Mar. 9, 2024) - The Point University Competitive Cheer team returned to the mat for competitions hosted by Life University which opened on Friday, March 8th for the Life University Classic and followed on Saturday, March 9th for the Southern States Athletic Conference Championships.  

Life University Classic on Friday, March 8th  

The Skyhawks opened the weekend with the Life University Classic for two rounds of competition with seven teams. The teams that competed were the University of Tennessee Southern, Florida Memorial University, Life University, University of Mobile, Loyola University-New Orleans, Point University, and Keiser University. The first round opened with all seven teams competing and the Skyhawks finished in sixth place with a first-round score of 67.93. The second round only consisted of four teams in the bout which were Point University, Florida Memorial University, Life University, and University of Mobile. The second round saw improvement from the competitors of Point as the Skyhawks finished with a final round score of 70.77. 

SSAC Banquet on Friday, March 8th  

The Southern States Athletic Conference hosted the Conference Banquet on Friday Night to honor the competitors who respectively won awards that they were voted for. The Skyhawks were featured in awards such as First Team All-Conference, Barnes and Noble All-Academic Team, and Champions of Character award. The First Team All-Conference award winners for Point were Madelyn Miles, Crystal Ingram, Jada Culler, and Alison Baker. The winners of the Barnes and Noble All-Academic Team were Sydney Gray, Crystal Ingram, Madelyn Miles, and Addyson Powers. The last award within Point University was the Champions of Character award which was given to the member who exemplifies the five core values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership. Madelyn Miles won the award for this honor. 

SSAC Conference Championships on Saturday, March 9th  

Saturday morning was an early morning for all seven teams as each team who competed in Round One of the Life University Classic would be competing for the SSAC Title. In the Prelims, the Skyhawks finished with a sixth-place score of 68.18. The final round saw the Skyhawks be the second team to compete where Point represented the institution by leaving it all on the mat. The energy picked up with each competitor not looking back and improving their score to 71.16 in Round Two. Overall, Point finished in sixth place out of seven teams with an overall score of 70.42. The University of Tennessee Southern finished in first place to be crowned as the SSAC Champions for Competitive Cheer. Following the event, Crystal Ingram was announced as the Co-Flyer of the year by the Conference. In the first year with Head Coach Randa Tucker at the helm, the Skyhawks saw their confidence rise each time they competed. There are high hopes for the future with her leadership of giving maximum effort each time which will be an optimistic outlook for the 2024-25 season.
