Julio Lopez earns SSAC Pitcher of the Week honors

WEST POINT, Ga. (Apr. 29, 2024) - The Southern States Athletic Conference has announced the final Player of the Week honors as Baseball will get ready for the SSAC Baseball Championships in Jackson, Tennessee beginning on Wednesday, May 1st through Saturday, May 4th. Julio Lopez earned Pitcher of the Week honors for the final week. 

Lopez pitched his second consecutive shutout win against the SSAC Champion, #11 Faulkner University where he earned his eighth win as a starter and pitched his sixth complete game. The Senior from Long Beach, California has been a great addition to the pitching staff where he is second in strikeouts with 51 and has an ERA of 2.68. Lopez has kept a calm composure on the mound and has shown that he is not afraid of the big moment. His impact on the team helped the Skyhawks end the season with a #3 seed in the SSAC to go into tournament play. Julio Lopez is well-respected by his peers and a player that is about winning which fits the style of the "One Team, One Goal" mantra that Head Coach John Tyler has preached about all season. For the Skyhawks, this is the second pitcher to earn an SSAC Pitcher of the Week award (Three Pitcher of the Week awards, and their fourth weekly honor within the conference for the season. Dominic Julio Lopez has stayed ready for the moment and still feels he has more to prove as the Skyhawks prepare to compete for a conference championship. This is Lopez's first weekly award.
