Point Baseball takes two from Brewton-Parker, Inclement weather Postpones Game Three

WEST POINT, Ga. (Apr. 20, 2024) - The RV Point University Baseball Team took the field for a Southern States Athletic Conference weekend series against Brewton-Parker College where the Skyhawks took Game One and Two but Game Three was postponed through four innings due to bad weather and field conditions. 

Game One (10-4, Win) 

The Barons opened the top of the second inning with an RBI double to left field to take the field with the first run. Point followed with their first in the bottom of the third inning with an error from second base on Brewton-Parker to score two runs with Daniel Gonzalez and Zeb Baird advancing home to lead 2-1. Point added another run with Jaysen Dower taking his opportunity to sprint home for their third run. Rafael Jackson did not waste any time at bat as he cracked a home run to right field to increase the lead to 4-1. The Skyhawks continued adding pressure on Brewton-Parker as Slade Mink added an RBI single to right field to advance Daniel Gonzalez home for another run. The Barons followed in the top of the sixth with an RBI double to right field and a balk to trail 5-3. The Skyhawks responded as Zeb Baird added a double right field to see Rafael Jackson put his speed on display for another run scored. A two-RBI triple by Daniel Gonzalez followed by Sam Baker and Zeb Baird added two runs to increase the lead. Jayse Dower entered the fray with an RBI single to right field to end the inning with a 9-3 lead. The Skyhawks opened the bottom of the seventh with a double to left field followed by Jackson advancing home from a wild pitch. The Barons were able to one more run at the top of the eighth, but would not be able to complete the comeback. Cameron Seiwert started Game One for the Skyhawks on the mound and earned a win, his 10th win as a starter on the season, and is one win away from being tied for the most wins as a starting pitcher in a season (11). 

Game Two (1-0, Win) 

The Skyhawks opened the top of the first with Slade Mink singling to left field for a base hit. A foul out to third and a strikeout ended the bottom of the first inning with zero runs. Point took the lead with as two walks and a wild pitch from the Barons caused a scored run from Rafael Jackson. The Barons had an opportunity to respond with a single to left field, a stolen base, and advance to third. With the Barons in scoring position, Julio Lopez kept his composure with a strikeout and a Baron fly out to center field to end the inning. Going into the seventh, The Barons added a runner in scoring position from a walk and sacrifice bunt. A groundout in Sam Baker's territory added two outs with Brewton-Parker having to find a way to tie. Julio Lopez's walkoff strikeout secured the Game Two with a win and his seventh win on the mound. 

Game Three (1-0, Postponed) 

The Skyhawks took the lead in the bottom of the third with Alex Marquand adding a sacrifice fly to center field which saw Daniel Gonzalez advance home for the first run. Maxime Beaulieu was on a rhythm with two strikeouts through four innings, but inclement weather postponed the matchup.  

Seniors Honored

The Baseball Team moved their Senior Day to the West Point Gym through the weather delay to still give their 12 Seniors their moment to be honored.
