Point Baseball continues winning ways over Truett-McConnell

WEST POINT, Ga. (Apr. 9, 2024) - The Point University Baseball returned to the field for a non-conference midweek matchup at the West Point Park Baseball against Truett-McConnell University where the Skyhawks took the win with a final score of 10-4. 

Point opened the bottom of the first inning with Daniel Gonzalez doubling to left field to create the early momentum for the Skyhawks. Slade Mink followed with a RBI single to left field which advanced Gonzalez home for the first run. Alex Marquand's double to right field extended the lead to 2-0 as Slade Mink raced home for another run. Truett-McConnell added their first run in the top of the second with a sacrifice bunt to advance a runner home to trail 2-1. With Zeb Baird and Mason Davis getting onto base, Sam Baker's sacrifice bunt advanced Baird to third to put a runner in scoring position. Daniel Gonzalez continued his hot start with a double to left field which helped score two runs. The Bears looked to climb back into the game as TMU scored two runs on an RBI single and a balk to trail 4-3. The Skyhawks kept the game away from the Bears as Zeb Baird added a triple to right field which advanced Rafael Jackson home for another run. With one out on the board, the Bears forced an out on Jaden Mazzaferro but the Skyhawks added another run with Zeb Baird coming home from third base. The Bears scored their final game run with an RBI single to right field. A wild pitch from Truett-McConnell helped the Skyhawks extend their lead to 7-4 as Rafael Jackson walked his way into home plate. The Skyhawks finished the game with Alex Marquand along with Slade Mink adding another RBI single and Silas Butler adding a sacrifice fly to take the win over the Bears. Daniel Crabtree started on the mound followed by appearances from Ben Beasley, Carson Curry, Justin England, Austin Tebo, Gene Aberoutte, Cooper Hack, Joshua Castillo, Cole Johnson, and Sage McWaters.
