Point Baseball drops home SSAC Series to the Rams
WEST POINT, Ga. (Mar. 30, 2024) - The Point University Baseball team returned to action for a weekend Southern States Athletic Conference series against the University of Mobile which was named the SSAC Series of the Week. The Skyhawks fell to Mobile in a sweep as Mobile won all three games.
Game One (4-0, Loss)
The Rams opened with a two-out double to score their first run in the top of the first inning. Point looked to tie the game in the bottom of the second inning as Zeb Baird looked to slide into home plate but was called out. The Rams added their second run with an RBI single in the top of the sixth inning to bring their lead to 2-0. The Skyhawks continued to look to find ways to get their first run but the Rams held on in Game One and added two more runs to win 4-0.

Game Two (8-5, Loss)
Mobile opened with a two-out double to take the first run in Game Two and look to keep their momentum going on the road. Point wiped the lead away from the Rams as Jordan Nathaniel singled to left field which advanced Silas Butler home. The second run came from a sacrifice fly by Alex Marquand to advance Chris Mancill home to officially take the lead. The Skyhawks continued to fire away at bat as Zeb Baird added a single past third base which was followed by a single to left field from Hunter Neumayer. The Rams were able to hold Point to zero runs in the bottom of the third inning to keep Point's lead at 2-1. The action for Mobile picked up in the top of the fifth inning as an RBI single to center field advanced one runner home to tie the game at two. The Rams regained the lead with a sacrifice fly to right field to end the inning with a 3-2 lead. A throwing error in the bottom of the seventh inning saw Rafael Jackson and Slade Mink sprint home to put the Skyhawks back in the lead with a score of 4-3. Alex Marquand's RBI single helped Silas Butler advance home to put Point ahead by two in the bottom of the eighth inning. Mobile responded by adding five runs in the top of the ninth inning which ultimately helped the Rams take the game with a final score of 8-5.

Game Three (8-7, Loss)
Point opened the game with a double from Alex Marquand and Daniel Gonzalez which helped score two runs for the Skyhawks to lead 2-0. Mobile responded with a home run to keep the game within reach. The top of the third inning saw the Rams add five runs to lead 6-2. The Skyhawks added a run with an RBI single from Sam Baker which helped advance Rafael Jackson home to bring the score to 6-3. Point continued to push their way to make the game closer as the bottom of the eighth inning saw Jaden Mazzaferro add a double to left field to have Slade Mink score. Rafael Jackson followed with a three-run homer to tie the game at seven going into the ninth inning. Mobile scored the final run with an RBI single to take the series in a sweep with a final score of 8-7.
