Point Baseball fires past the Bears for a Midweek win

WEST POINT, Ga. (Feb. 20, 2024) - The Point University Baseball team opened the new week by returning to the field for a home nonconference game against former Appalachian Athletic Conference foe, Truett McConnell University where the Skyhawks took the win with a final score of 8-4.

The Bears opened the top of the first inning with a runner on third base advancing home as Point completed a double play to get two outs. With one out on the board, The Skyhawks tied the game as a putout from the third baseman on Chris Mancill which advanced Silas Butler home. The Bears responded by regaining the lead by adding two runs after the error on third base. The Skyhawks came into the fifth inning with a mindset to takeover which was put on display as Hunter Neumayer took advantage of a throwing error to score a run. Point tied the game at 3 a piece as Slade Mink added a sacrifice fly to score Sam Baker home. The momentum fully shifted to the point as Silas Butler and Mason Davis recorded back-to-back home runs to take the lead with a score of 5-3. The Skyhawks added more fuel to the fire by loading the bases which resulted in two runs with the pitchers walking batter both times. The final two runs came off a Sacrifice Fly from Zeb Baird to score Rafael Jackson and a home run from Truett-McConnell. Although the Bears added a run in the ninth inning, a strikeout and a flyout to center field ended the game with Point winning 8-4.
