Baseball wins game one of AAC home series with #19 Bryan College
WEST POINT, Ga. (March 16, 2023) – The Point University baseball team played Game 1 of a three game AAC conference series against #19 Bryan College and would win, 8-7.
The Lions would get the scoring started with a solo home run in the top of the second. The Skyhawks would get their scoring started when Adam Barnett would reach on a fielder's choice that would score Slade Mink to make it 1-1 score. Sam Baker would give the Skyhawks the lead with a single to left field that would score Jhamante Woods to make it 2-1. In the bottom of the third, Zeb Baird would double to right center to score the courtesy runner for Alex Marquand, Brett Campbell to make it 3-1. The Lions would retake the lead in the top of the fifth when they would score two runs to make it 4-3. Kaleb Podger would hit a solo home run to make it a tie ball game at 4-4. Later in the fifth, Zeb Baird would hit a double down the left field line, scoring both Slade Mink and Brett Campbell (CR for Alex Marquand) to retake the lead at 6-4. Cason Curry would be relieved after throwing five innings in his start, allowing four runs and striking out one by Chandler Griggs in the sixth. Griggs would allow two runs on four hits in the sixth inning. Jackson Bush would hit a home run on his birthday to make it a 7-4 game in the bottom of the sixth. Slade Mink would add another run in the sixth with his single to center field that would score Kaleb Podger to make it a 8-4 game. The Skyhawks would go to the bullpen in the seventh inning and bring in Sage McWaters for Chandler Griggs. The Lions would score two in the seventh to bring it to an 8-6 game. After a double to start the top of the ninth, Sage McWaters would be relieved on the mound for Daniel Crabtree. Crabtree would only allow one inherited runner score, record the save and give the Skyhawks the 8-7 Game 1 victory.
