Baseball wins game one, but game two ends in tie due to darkness

TALLADEGA, Ala. (February 18, 2023) – The Point University baseball team played an away doubleheader on Saturday against Talladega. The Skyhawks would win game one, 8-1 and would tie game two, 6-6 due to darkness (no lights).

GAME 1 – 8-1 WIN

The Skyhawks would score three runs in the top of the second to make it a 3-0 lead. Sam Baker would hit a 2RBI double to left field that would score Zeb Baird and Jackson Bush. Kaleb Podger would hit an RBI single to left center that would score Jaysen Dower to make it 3-0. In the top of the fourth, the Skyhawks would push their lead out to 7-0. Podger would triple to the right field corner that would score Zavion Anderson and Jaysen Dower. Alex Marquand would hit an RBI single to right center that would score Kaleb Podger. Demetrius Foster would score on an RBI single to center field by Slade Mink to make it 7-0. The Tornados would score one run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 7-1. In the top of the seventh, Jaysen Dower would double to left center, which would score Demetrius Foster to make it a 8-1 game. The Skyhawks would get three outs in the bottom of the seventh to take game one, 8-1.

On the Mound

Cameron Seiwert would get the start in game one and would come out victorious. Seiwert would pitch 5.2 IP, while allowing one earned run one two hits, walking five and striking out nine. Sage McWaters would come in for one out in the sixth, Cale Whigham would close the game out pitching one inning and striking out one batter.

 

GAME 2 – 6-6 TIE

The Skyhawks would score five runs in the third and one in the fifth inning. The Tornados would score three runs in third and three runs in the fifth. Kaleb Podger would hit an RBI double to right center to score Zavion Anderson to make it 1-0. Alex Marquand would single to right field to score Kaleb Podger to make it 2-0. Zeb Baird would single to center field to score Jackson Bush and Demetrius Foster to make it 4-0. Noah Watkins would double down the first base line to score Zeb Baird to make it 5-0 after the top of the third. After three runs scoring for the Tornados, Noah Watkins would triple to right center to score Zeb Baird to make it 6-3. The Tornados would score three runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the ball game up. The game would end in a tie after eight innings due to darkness.

On the Mound

Gene Aberoutte would get the start for the Skyhawks and would pitch four innings, allowing four earned runs on five hits, walking one and striking out two. Chandler Griggs would pitch the fifth inning and would allow two earned runs. Salter Greene would pitch the sixth inning and would allow no runs, while striking out one. Clayton Smith would pitch the seventh and eighth innings. Smith would allow no runs and struck out two batters.

 

The Point Skyhawks are back in action on Tuesday, February 21, when they host Middle Georgia State at home with the first pitch starting 3:00 P.M.
