Skyhawks split at home with Brewton-Parker

WEST POINT, Ga. (February 10, 2023) – The Point University baseball team played a double header on Friday at home, against Brewton-Parker College in a non-conference contest. The Skyhawks would split the day by losing game one, 10-4 and winning game two, 17-6.

Game 1 10-4 LOSS (9 innings)

The Barons would get the scoring started in the third inning when they scored twice to make it 2-0. Jhamante Woods would have an RBI sac fly to score Demetrius Foster to cut the Barons lead to 2-1. In the bottom of the sixth, the Barons catcher would use his catcher's helmet to bring a blocked baseball closer to him and would be charged for using his equipment. This would allow the baserunner on third base, Kaleb Podger to score and make it a tie ballgame at 2-2. The Barons would take the lead again in the seventh inning with two more runners scoring to make it 4-2. Zavion Anderson would hit a RBI double in the bottom of the seventh that would score JR Curley to make it 4-3. The Barons would counter again in the top of the eighth when they scored two more runs making it 6-3.  Jackson Bush would homer in the bottom of the eighth to make it a 6-4 game. The Barons would make sure they would secure the victory by scoring four runs in the ninth and taking game 1 with a score of 10-4.

Point had 4 runs, 9 hits and committed 3 errors in the field.

Game 2 – 17-6 WIN (7 innings)

The Barons would take a quick 3-0 lead after the top of the first. The Skyhawks would get one run back when Jackson Bush would hit an RBI double that would score Kaleb Podger to make it 3-1. Zavion Anderson would tie the game up in the bottom of the third when he hit a 2 RBI double that would score Chase Tolbert and Jeremiah Martin. The Skyhawks would open the game up when they would score six runs in the bottom of the third to make it 9-3. The third inning scoring would start with Jeremiah Martin would have an RBI groundout that would score Alex Marquand. Zeb Baird would hit an RBI triple that would score Jackson Bush. Easton Harrison would hit an RBI singled to score Zeb Baird.  Zavion Anderson would score two more runners with his triple down the right field line that would score Miguel Fernandez and Demetrius Foster. Kaleb Podger would hit an RBI single that would score Zavion Anderson. The Skyhawks would cross two more runs to the plate in the bottom of the fourth to make it 11-3. The Barons would score two runs in the fifth and one more run in the sixth to make it 11-6. The Skyhawks would put the game away for good in the bottom of the sixth. Miguel Fernandez would hit an RBI double that would score Zeb Baird to make it a 12-6 game. Zavion Anderson would hit a three-run homer that would also score Miguel Fernandez and Jaysen Dower to make it 15-6. Jackson Bush would hit an RBI double that would score Alex Marquand and Kaleb Podger to make it 17-6. That would be all Chandler Griggs would need, as he would retire the Barons three up and three down to help the Skyhawks win 17-6.
