Point University named a Champions of Character Five-Star Gold Institution for the first time in school history

WEST POINT, Ga. (Aug. 18, 2023) - The NAIA announced each Champions of Character Five-star institution for Bronze, Silver, and Gold on Tuesday, August 15. For an institution to receive Five-star honors, they are measured on the commitment to Champions of Character and receive points with character, actions conducted during competition, academics, character recognition, and character promotions. The Skyhawks had their highest departmental GPA in school history and did not receive an ejection during a sporting event in 2022-23.

In the past, Point University saw itself land on the Five-Star Silver Institution list. That streak ended on August 15, 2023, when the NAIA announced each school from the bronze, silver, and gold categories. Point University was named a Champions of Character Five-Star Gold Institution, which marked a new day for the Skyhawks as it was the first time in school history. The hard work of the student-athletes within their sport and in the classroom played a massive part in that factor, along with the leadership of Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics, Jaunelle White, reiterating the message of "Continuing Excellence" to her peers in the institution. This announcement is a great tone setter for the 2023-24 year, setting an example that doing the right thing in representing Point University most positively can pay off. The work will have to continue for the new school year as the Skyhawks look to kick off the new year with high expectations as one of the six Southern States Athletic Conference schools to receive this honor.
