Point Teams and Athletes Recognized on NAIA National Awards Day

WEST POINT, Ga. (Sept. 15, 2022) – The NAIA announced the 2021-22 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete awards on Wednesday as part of National Awards Day for the association, and Point University had 12 teams collect NAIA Scholar team status and 49 student-athletes named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete Award winners.  

For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar Team award, it must have a minimum 3.0 grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution. The team grade-point average includes all eligible varsity student-athletes. 

The Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete award recognizes individual student-athletes at the national level for achieving high academic success. Specifically, each individual must maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved junior academic status to be honored as a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete. 

Women’s basketball led the Skyhawks with a 3.58 GPA, followed by volleyball (3.48) and women’s swimming and diving (3.45). Men’s tennis finished with the highest men’s team GPA, with a 3.30, followed by men’s soccer (3.22).  

Men’s soccer and softball led with way with seven individual honorees.
