The Skyhawks soar past the Lions into victory

WEST POINT, Ga. (Sept. 30, 2022) - The Point University women's soccer team returned to the pitch Friday afternoon in a quick turnaround game for an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup against Bryan College and edged the Lions to win 3-2.

Point came into the matchup looking to bounce back two days after a previous match with Reinhardt. The Skyhawks started off with a plan to create havoc on the offensive end and would be successful as Kelly Carlisle scored the first goal for Point to put them ahead 1-0. The Skyhawks continued to test the waters by taking multiple shots on goal against the Lions. As the game neared halftime, Point jumped onto the scoreboard for the second time when Keiry Bonilla made the most of her opportunity to bring the lead to 2-0. Bryan College looked to search for answers by responding with goals of their own, but the Skyhawks held their ground on defense going into the half.

Both teams came into the second half with a mindset to finish the match with everything they had. The Lions continued to make their attempts on goal and landed on the scoreboard for their first point of the game to bring the score to 2-1. For the Skyhawks, the women's team locked in to set each other up for success, which resulted in Tamia Jones assisting Kelly Carlisle for her second goal of the game for the Skyhawks to bring the lead to 3-1. As the game neared the end, Bryan College was not ready to go down without a response as they kept their composure with plans to make a comeback. The Lions added another goal on the evening to now trail Point by one. The intensity on defense was heightened for the Skyhawks as they did not allow the Lions to complete their comeback, which secured the win for Point.
