POINT - - LaGrange outscored Point by 11 points in the final period to pick up a 64-61 women’s basketball victory Saturday afternoon. Zariah Fannin tied for game-high scoring honors with 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting in defeat in a contest that saw Point build a 13-point halftime advantage. Fannin scored 11 of her points in the opening quarter as the squad built a 19-15 lead after the opening 10 minutes. The Skyhawks built the lead to 34-21 at intermission behind nine second quarter points from Imanni Dennard. Dennard finished the game with 11 points to join Fannin (18), Carmen Bridges (14), and Phallen Thomas (14) in double-figure scoring. LaGrange took charge in the second half with Amanda McClendon scoring eight of her 18 points in the third quarter to aid the Panthers to the comeback. The Panthers forced 21 turnovers in the win as eight players dented the scoring column. LaGrange shot just 39.6 percent from the field but the 21 turnovers proved to be too costly to overcome. The loss was the seventh consecutive for Point to start the year. The Skyhawks will return to play on Dec. 6 against Brewton-Parker (Ga.). Tip time is set for 12 p.m. Saturday.
