Women’s soccer ties with TWU in double overtime

ATHENS, Tenn. (Sept. 24, 2021) – Carmen Kager connected for the game equalizing goal in the 65th minute, ultimately sending the game into overtime, and after two overtime periods, a golden goal was unable to be scored and the Point University women's soccer team tied with Tennessee Wesleyan 1-1.

A minute and 16 seconds into the game, the Bulldogs took an early lead with a through-ball from Rachel Dudley to Cristina Escrig. The Bulldogs would hold onto their early lead for the remainder of the first half, and into the second, until a corner kick from Kager would find the net to tie the match 1-1, where the score would stay for the remainder of the game.

Tennessee Wesleyan outshot Point 29-15 and forced Skyhawk goalie Erica Burkhardt to make nine saves. Point's offense was led by Kager and Nathaly Villalobos, who took five and four shots, respectively. Of Point's 15 shots, only four were on goal, with Kager accounting for three and Villalobos having one.

Up next, the Skyhawks will travel to face Appalachian Athletic Conference in-state foe Reinhardt on Wednesday, Sept. 29. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
