Women’s Basketball drops non-conference matchup to Carolina University on the road

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (Dec. 18, 2024)—The Point University Women's Basketball team returned to the court for a non-conference game against NCCAA Opponent Carolina University. The Skyhawks fell to the Bruins with a final score of 75-44. 

The first half opened with Antonia Pittman and Lanee Edwards adding the first two scores in hopes of matching the energy of Carolina University.  The Bruins began to take advantage of a first-quarter run before Antonia Pittman halted the run with a three-pointer. Carolina looked to build their during the opening quarter as the Bruins added two three-pointers to lead 24-9. Point looked to settle in with an and-one layup from Zaria Johnson which followed a conversion from the charity stripe. The Bruins could use their first-quarter momentum to keep the lead in the second quarter and lead 45-21 at halftime. 

Lanee Edwards scored the first five points for the Skyhawks in the third quarter, hoping for a late comeback. Edwards continued to drive to the paint and score, but the Bruins continued to hold their lead at 55-32. Carolina University's ball movement and willingness to rebound helped the Bruins cruise in the fourth quarter and take the win over the Skyhawks with a final score of 75-44.

Lanee Edwards led with 19 Points, eight rebounds, and one steal. Aniyah Wesley followed with 10 Points, two rebounds, and two steals. Antonia Pittman added nine points, five assists, and one steal.

The Women's Basketball team will return to the court for their first game of 2025 with a road Southern States Athletic Conference matchup in Marietta, Georgia at Life University on Saturday, January 4th starting at noon.
