
Point Softball Faces Tough Loss Against Tennessee Southern Firehawks
WEST POINT, Ga. (March 28, 2025) - In a tightly contested conference softball doubleheader, the Point University's Skyhawks fell to the Tennessee Southern Firehawks, with a final score of 4-3 in the first game and 12-0 in the second game.
Game One (4-3, Loss)
The Skyhawks, who fought valiantly throughout the duel, saw Taylor Gajdik, Mackenzie Diaz, and Ansley Joiner cross the plate to tally runs for Point University. Contributions also came from Brooke Burkett and Savanna Bryant, along with Ansley Joiner again, each driving in a run to keep the game competitive. Starting pitcher Taylor Gajdik delivered a commendable performance on the mound with seven innings pitched, allowing just three hits and four runs while striking out six batters.
Despite the Skyhawks' effort, Tennessee Southern managed to secure an early lead and maintained it with critical scoring in the 5th, 7th, and 8th innings. The strategic plays and timely hits by the Firehawks ultimately sealed their victory. The Point University team showcased resilience and competitive spirit, but could not overcome the Firehawks.
Game Two (12-0, Loss)
During the second match, the Skyhawks experienced a challenging defeat, falling 12-0 against the Tennessee Southern Firehawks at their home field. The Skyhawks' defense could not keep up with the robust Firehawks' offense.
The game opened with Tennessee Southern setting a strong pace, scoring three runs in the first inning, and they didn't let up from there. Alyssa Burrows, the starting pitcher for Point, and Chloe Mitcham faced a tough game on the mound against the Firehawks' aggressive batters.
