Point University Softball Falls in Tough Conference Battles 

 

Hattiesburg, MS & Mobile, AL (March 21 & 22, 2025) In a weekend of challenging meetings on the softball field, the Point University Skyhawks women's softball team faced a tough defeat against the William Carey (MS) Crusaders (March 21) and the Mobile University Rams (March 22), two of the three top ranked teams in the Southern State Athletic Conference.  
 

March 21 Game 1 (loss 12-0- 5 innings) 

In game one of the double header in Hattiesburg, starting pitcher Chloe Mitcham struggled to hold back a dominant William Carey lineup. Despite the tough game conditions, defensive efforts were highlighted as Isabella Owens of Point University successfully registered four putouts during the game. The Skyhawks faced challenges throughout the game, reflecting their competitive spirit and tenacity among conference play. 
 

March 21 Game 2 (loss 8-0- 5 innings) 

In game two, the Skyhawks were outbattled by the SSAC #3 ranked William Carey Crusaders. 
 
From the mound, Taylor Gajdik was a notable performer for the Skyhawks. Taylor Gajdik pitched for 4.2 innings, delivering 102 pitches with 68 of them strikes, and achieved 3 strikeouts. Despite her efforts, the Point University team could not capitalize on their chances throughout the game.  MaKenzie Gilliland hit a double in the third inning, which was the only hit for the Skyhawks during the game. 
 

March 22 Game 1 ( loss 9-1) 

In a challenging conference battle against the SSAC #2 ranked Mobile University Softball team, the Skyhawks faced a tough defeat.  
 
The Rams took control of the game early, and despite efforts from the Skyhawks, they could not capitalize but one run. Point University's pitcher, Chloe Mitcham, faced a formidable Mobile lineup, but the Skyhawks struggled to contain their opponent's offense. 
 
Among the few highlights for the Skyhawks was Taylor Gajdik, who managed to secure 1 hit and score the sole run for her team.  
 

March 22 Game 2 (loss 6-0) 

The Skyhawks faced tough competition from the outset, with Mobile taking an early lead and maintaining control throughout the game. Point University's pitcher, Taylor Gajdik, worked through 6.0 innings on the mound, striking out 6 batters. 
 
A highlight from the Skyhawks was the performance of Savanna Bryant, who managed to make her mark by being the only Point University player to hit against Mobile's pitchers. Bryant went 1 for 3 putting her mark on the game.
