Leguizamon wins NAIA player of the week

WEST POINT, Ga. (Nov. 2, 2021) – Sophomore Jeronimo Leguizamon of the Point University men's soccer team has been selected as the NAIA men's soccer offensive player of the week for the week ending Oct. 31. The NAIA made the announcement Tuesday, selecting Leguizamon from a pool of over 15 nominees.

Leguizamon, already the Appalachian Athletic Conference offensive player of the week this week for the third time this season, scored seven goals in two matches and set a new school record for most goals scored in a single season.

The sophomore connected for a super hat trick in Point's 7-0 victory over Columbia last Wednesday and a hat trick in Point's 4-1 win over Bluefield last Friday. Both of Leguizamon's goals were game-winning goals.

Leguizamon's fourth goal against Columbia broke the school record set by Juan Gomez back in 2018 for most goals scored in a season. Gomez set the record with 17 goals, and Leguizamon now holds the record with 22.

Leguizamon is currently tied in first place in the NAIA for goals scored and leads the nation with 112 shots.

With the national athlete of the week nod, Leguizamon becomes the first Point athlete to win a weekly recognition this year.
