Men's soccer overpowers Columbia on senior night

WEST POINT, Ga. (Oct. 27, 2021) – Behind a super hat trick from Jeronimo Leguizamon, the Point University men's soccer team earned a 7-0 victory against Appalachian Athletic Conference newcomers Columbia College Wednesday evening inside River Bowl Stadium.

At halftime of Wednesday's game, the Skyhawks honored the seven members of its senior class: Josue Fernandez, Julio Gomes, Facundo Palacio, Pablo Acebron, David Tetley, Lorenzo Delvecchio, and Daniel Perez.

With Wednesday's victory, the Skyhawks advance to 8-5-1 overall and 7-5 in the AAC.

The Skyhawks' offense came out aggressive in the first half, taking 13 shots in the first 24 minutes of action, with Leguizamon connecting for Point's first goal on the 13th shot of the game. Delvecchio recorded the assist. Leguizamon swiftly extended the Skyhawks' lead with a goal in the 32nd minute, assisted by Palacio. Four minutes later, a foul in the penalty box set Leguizamon up for a penalty kick, which he capitalized on, to make the score 3-0. Less than a minute later, Palacio connected for the Skyhawks' fourth goal of the night, assisted by Tommy Eskew. Point entered the breaking ahead 4-0.

Leguizamon opened the second half with his fourth goal of the night, assisted by Eskew in the 56th minute. The Skyhawks would score two more goals in the half, with Diego Espino and Fabian Saborio connecting for each of their second goals of the season. Perez recorded the assist on Saborio's goal.

Overall, Point outshot Columbia 34-8, 22-4 with shots on frame. Leguizamon led Point's offensive efforts with 13 shots, 10 on frame. Leguizamon currently leads the AAC with 19 goals.

Up next, Point will host Bluefield on Saturday, Oct. 30, at 4:15 p.m. This will be the Skyhawks' final game of the regular season.
