Football drops road contest to Morehead State 

MOREHEAD, Ky. (Sept. 11, 2021) – The Point University football team traveled to Morehead, Kentucky, to face NCAA Division I opponent Morehead State Saturday afternoon, and fell to the Eagles 62-9.

The Skyhawks fell to 0-2 after Saturday's loss, both losses coming from NCAA Division I programs.

Morehead State's offense recorded six touchdowns, three in the first quarter, followed by one in the second quarter. The Eagles' defense recorded an interception in the second quarter and MSU connected for a 37-yard field goal to enter the half leading 38-0.

With a little over a minute into the third quarter, the Eagles rushed for a one-yard touchdown to extend its lead 45-0. MSU would add to their lead off a fumble recovery with 10:59 remaining, followed by a touchdown with 3:43 left in the quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Point's Logan Flesher connected for a field goal with 5:27 remaining, making the score 59-3. The Eagles responded with a field goal before Payton Allen connected with Sensir Carnes for a 15-yard touchdown pass. Flesher connected with the PAT, making the final score 62-9.

MSU accumulated 508 total offense yards with 359 passing and 149 rushing. Point had a total of 193 yards, 165 passing and 28 rushing.

Brenton White and Payton Allen split quarterback roles, with White going 6-for-15, throwing for 79 yards and one interception and Allen going 7-for-13 with 86 passing yards and one interception.

D'Ontae Eatmon led Point's rushing efforts with 22 rushing yards and Ja'Quez Bartley led the Skyhawks with 67 receiving yards. On defense, Point was led by Shakwan Bickley, who recorded nine tackles and Aaron Anderson, who recorded eight tackles and two tackles for a loss of 10 yards. Ka'Javeion Byrd recorded Point's lone interception and returned it for 40 yards.

Flesher not only connected for Point's field goal but recorded seven punts for 251 total yards and three kickoffs for 136 total yards.

Next, Point is scheduled to travel to Ave Maria, Florida, to play Ave Maria on Saturday, Sept. 18. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
