Point Baseball flies into victory over Truett-McConnell

CLEVELAND, Ga. (Mar. 12, 2024) - The Point University Baseball team returned to the field for a non-conference game against former Appalachian Athletic Conference foe, Truett-McConnell University where the Skyhawks took the win with a final score of 10-0.

The Skyhawks opened the top of the third inning with a single from Silas Butler to get their first hit of the game. Daniel Gonzalez followed with a sacrifice fly to Center field which scored Silas Butler for the first run of the game. Point continued to roll as a single from Sam Baker gave him a base hit. Alex Marquand's single to right field helped send the speed of Baker home to end the inning with a 2-0 lead. The momentum grew in the fourth inning as Trent Sheppard opened with a single to left field which was followed by a double to center field from Zeb Baird. Sheppard advanced home from a foul ball out to right field to bring the score 3-0. Mason Davis followed with an RBI single to right field which allowed Zeb Baird to advance home. The inning continued with the Skyhawks loading the bases with a hit from Daniel Gonzalez and a walk from Sam Baker. Alex Marquand smacked a single to center field which advanced Gonzalez and Davis home for two runs. The Bears looked to escape the inning but a passed ball helped advance the runners on base which saw Sam Baker advance home to bring the lead to 7-0. The Skyhawks were not done creating havoc on the offensive end as multiple base hits from Trent Sheppard and Silas Butler helped add two runners on. Point ended the inning by adding one run as Trent Sheppard advanced home on the stolen base. The Bears were unable to match the intensity of the Skyhawks as Point made quick work of their opponents defensively. The final two runs came from a Trent Sheppard single to left field and a Hunter Neumayer double to left to give the Skyhawks a 10-0 lead. Point would not allow any runs from the Bears and successfully shut out the Bears on the road.
