Baseball falls to #3 Tennessee Wesleyan in series finale

WEST POINT, Ga. (April 7, 2023) – The Point University baseball team played Game 3 of their three-game series with Tennessee Wesleyan and would fall 7-1. The Skyhawks would get swept in the AAC series against the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs would take an early 1-0 lead after a sacrifice fly to right field in the top of the first. The Skyhawks were able to get out of the bases loaded with only one run scoring. The Skyhawks would answer back in the bottom of the first when Alex Marquand would hit an RBI single to right center that would score Slade Mink to tie the game up at 1-1. The Bulldogs would answer right back in the top of the second with a two-out, two RBI single to center field to make it a 3-1 game. Carson Curry, the Skyhawks Game 3 starting pitcher would be relieved after only two innings of work where he would allow three earned runs on three hits, walking six and striking out one batter. Curry would be relieved by Gene Aberoutte who would do a fantastic job on the mound for four innings of relief work. Aberoutte would allow no runs, allowed one hit, walked two and struck out one batter in his relief appearance. In the top of the seventh, the Skyhawks would head to the bullpen as they would bring in Clayton Smith. The Bulldogs would get a two-out RBI single to extend their lead by three with the score at 4-1. After a catcher's interference call with two outs to load the bases, the Bulldogs would capitalize with a three RBI triple to make it a 7-1 game. Smith would record the last out of the top of the seventh on a struck out looking. After a ground out, walk and a hit by pitch by Clayton Smith, the Skyhawks would once again head back to the bullpen. This time they would go with Adam Barnett who would be pitching for the first time in the 2023 season.  Barnett would get the first two batters out he would face by a strike out swinging and a fly out to center field. After the Skyhawks would go down in order in the bottom of the eighth, Adam Barnett would come back out to the mound for the ninth inning. Barnett would get the first two batters of the inning to fly out for the first two outs of the ninth. After a hit by pitch, Barnett would induce a pop up and send the Skyhawks to the bottom of the ninth trailing 7-1. The Bulldogs would get a 1-2-3 inning to come away with the Game 3, 7-1 victory and series sweep.

Next Game

The baseball team will head on the road to play a three-game AAC series with Milligan. Game 1 will be Friday, April 14 with the first pitch scheduled for 3:00 P.M. The doubleheader on Saturday, April 15 has a scheduled first pitch of Game 2 scheduled for 12:00 P.M. Game 3 of the series will start approximately 30 minutes after the last out of Game 2.
