No. 3 Baseball Wins Against Point

West Point, Ga.- The Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) series the second-ranked baseball team and the Point University Skyhawks came to an end on Friday. The two teams met in a doubleheader on the previous day.

The game opened with a Carson Ford walk, and Ford moved to third after a wild throw on his stolen base at second. Marco Martinez's flyout turned to a sacrifice fly as Ford had the space to score, giving the team a 1-0 lead after the top of the first inning. In the bottom of the first, the Skyhawks scored a run to tie the game.

A fielder's choice got Braxton Turner on first in the second inning. Ford followed with a single, and a passed ball moved base runners a base into scoring position. Both runners scored on Martinez's single, breaking the tie and giving the Bulldogs a 3-1 lead. Pitching and defense took over as the next run was not scored until the seventh inning.

The runs scored by Tennessee Wesleyan in the seventh inning were the final of the game. A hit by pitch got Andre Tarver to first base. A single by Cayle Webster, with two outs in the inning, put runners on the corner as Tarver moved to third. A follow-up single by Parker Stinnett put runners on the corners as Tarver scored and Webster swapped corners. After Stinnett second to move into scoring position, pinch-hitter Jacob Tolson reached base via a catcher's interference call, loading the bases. Turner cleared all the runners occupying a base with his triple to right field, giving the Bulldogs the 7-1 score they went on to win with.

Martinez and Turner both finished the game with three RBIs while Stinnett had one RBI. Gage Vailes picked up the win, striking out seven batters in seven innings of work. Jake Sergent had one strikeout in two innings of relief.

TWU (31-6, 19-0 AAC) stays on the road for their next game. The team will make the short trip to Dayton to take on No. 14 Bryan College in a non-conference mid-week game. The game between the two rivals is set to start at 6:00 p.m.
