Baseball wins game three, but drops series on the road

Knoxville, Tenn. (April 1, 2023) – The Point University baseball team went to Knoxville, Tenn. to play a three-game series against Johnson University and would lose 2 out of 3 games. The Skyhawks would lose game 1, 9-4 and game 2, 10-3. The Skyhawks would take game three by a score of 14-1.

 

Game 1 – 9-4 LOSS

The Skyhawks would drop out to a 1-0 lead on a wild pitch that would score Jackson Bush in the first inning. Later in the first, Alex Marquand would hit a sacrifice fly that would score Kaleb Podger to make it a 2-0 game. The Royals would tie the game up at 2-2 in the first inning. The Skyhawks would retake the lead in the top of the second when Jackson Bush would hit an RBI single to score Brett Campbell to make it 3-2. Kaleb Podger would than triple to right field that would score Jackson Bush to make it 4-2. The Royals would score one run in the third and another in the fourth to make it a tie ballgame at 4-4. In the sixth inning the Royals would score five runs to take a 9-4 lead. The Royals would hold on to the 9-4 lead for the game one victory.

Game 2 – 10-3 LOSS

 

The Skyhawks would get the scoring started in the first inning off of a Jackson Bush solo home run to make it 1-0. The Royals would respond with three runs in the third and one run in the fifth to make it 4-1. The Skyhawks would cut the lead in the top of the sixth when Jaysen Dower would single to score Slade Mink to make it 4-2. Later in the sixth, the Skyhawks would get an RBI single from Sam Baker that would score Jhamante Woods to make it 4-3. The Royals would have an offensive explosion in the bottom of the sixth, scoring six runs to make it a 10-3 game. In the top of the seventh, the Skyhawks would load the bases with one out, but were unable to get any runs on the board. The Royals would take Game 2 and the series by a score of 10-3.

Game 3 – 14-1 WIN

The Skyhawks would get another great pitching performance from Cole Brown, who would go six innings allowing only one run and striking out four batters. The offense of the Skyhawks would use eleven hits to score fourteen runs in game 3 to get the victory. The scoring in the first inning started when Jackson Bush would reach on a error that would score Slade Mink to make it 1-0. Later in the first, Alex Marquand would hit a sacrifice fly to center field that would score Kaleb Podger to make it 2-0. Podger would come up again in the second inning, but this time he would hit a double to left center that would score both Sam Baker and Jaysen Dower to make it a 4-0 game. Jackson Bush would add an RBI single through the right side in the second inning to score Podger to make it 5-0. In the fourth inning, Podger would double down the right field line to score Jaysen Dower to make it 6-0. Jackson Bush would ground out to the shortstop, but would score Slade Mink to make it 7-0 after the top of the fourth. The Royals would score their lone run of the game in the bottom of the fourth to make it 7-1. Brett Campbell would score on a pass ball in the fifth, making it 8-1. Noah Watkins would steal throw and on the error by the catcher would allow Baird to score, making it 9-1. Sam Baker would single to score Watkins and the score would move to 10-1. Baker would later score on a wild pitch that would make it 11-1. Jhamante Woods would single to right center and that would score Slade Mink, making it a 13-1 game. The Skyhawks would add on their seventh run of the top of the fifth when Alex Marquand would single to center field to score Woods, making it a 14-1 score. The Skyhawks would go on to see Bailey Mara pitch the seventh inning and get all three Royals batters he would face. The Skyhawks would take Game 3, 14-1.
