Point Volleyball sweeps past Brewton-Parker in road SSAC Play

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. (Oct. 30, 2024)—The Point University Volleyball team returned to the court for a road Southern States Athletic Conference match against Brewton-Parker College, where the Skyhawks won in a sweep. 

The conference rivals opened the first set, trading scores through the first four points. The Barons could capitalize on Point's errors to take an 18-12 lead. The Skyhawks fought back with multiple kills from Kayla Johnson and Jasmyn Ceasar to cut into the Barons' lead with a score of 18-17. Point wiped away Brewton-Parker's lead, with Tianna Kynard and Ava Clay adding an assisted block to turn the set around. A kill from Ava Clay assisted block Tianna Kynard and Ava Clay, and an attack error completed Point's comeback to win the first set.  

The Barons came into the second set with an early 7-1 run to put the Skyhawks on their heels. Point capitalized from Brewton-Parker's attack errors, followed by a kill from Jasmyn Ceasar to tie the set at seven. The Skyhawks intensified their play on the offensive end, with Kayla Johnson and Claire Cordell leading the charge with multiple kills. The Barons looked to find their way back into the set, but Point would not let up, only allowing 15 points in the second set to be ahead. 

Point went into set three, with Tianna Kynard and Ava Clay gaining the lead from back-to-back blocks. The Skyhawk offense ramped up as the next three out of four scores came from kills in the air. The errors from the Barons continued to eat away at their chances for a comeback, which was enough to help the Skyhawks end the set with a 7-3 run and complete the sweep over the Barons. 

In the Box 

Claire Cordell led with 12 kills, five digs, and one assist. Jasmyn Ceasar followed with 11 kills and four digs. Paige Lowe added a double-double with 35 assists and 12 digs. Jordan Palmer led defensively with 13 digs in the match. 

Milestone Watch 

Head Coach Faith Gineris has added 53 career wins, which ties program history for the most wins as a Head Coach. One more win would surpass the previous record and make Coach Gineris the winningest coach in program history.
