Point Volleyball sweeps St. Andrews, but falls to Reinhardt in Five

WALESKA, Ga. (Oct. 26, 2024) - The Point University Volleyball returned to the court for a non-conference tri-match against former Appalachian Athletic Conference foes St. Andrews University and Reinhardt University. The Skyhawks made quick work of the Knights with a sweep but fell to the Eagles in a competitive five-setter.

Saturday vs. St. Andrews (3-0, Win)

The Skyhawks brought the energy through the first set, which was enough to push their lead to 23-14 with multiple attacks and capitalizing from errors off St. Andrews. The Knights looked to make a late run, but a kill from Ava Clay and an error from the Knights gave the Skyhawks the upper edge through set one. Point jumped to a 10-2 run through the early going of Set Two. A kill from Isabella Cardona and a service ace from Janie Marie Messer helped continue to build Point's lead as each player got in on the action. Point cruised through the second set, with Kristina Faison adding kills and Jadakate Judkins adding an assisted block. The Knights looked to steal set three from Point, but three attacks from errors from St. Andrews helped the Skyhawks regain the lead. Isabella Cardona and Emma Murphy's kills helped extend the lead, which was followed by an attack error from the Knights, which gave the Skyhawks a sweep.

Saturday vs. Reinhardt (3-2, Loss)

The Eagles secured a set one victory to take the first set as Reinhardt made the comeback after trailing 23-19. Point did not go away easily as the Skyhawks took set two with Claire Cordell and Kayla Johnson adding many kills. Defensively, Point was in the right place at the right time as Ava Clay and Tianna Kynard added assisted blocks to halt the Eagles' offense. Reinhardt went into the third set with an attacking mindset, which was displayed by outdueling Point and halting the Skyhawks to 17. The Eagles looked to put Point on their heels in set four and take the match point, but the Skyhawks could match the intensity as Claire Cordell added consecutive kills followed by the assisted block from Kayla Johnson and Jasmyn Ceasar. Both teams continued to trade scores through the first 11 points with hopes of edging one another. The Eagles could go on a 4-0 run with three kills and an assisted block to win in five sets.
