
Point Volleyball sweeps past Middle Georgia in road SSAC Play
COCHRAN, Ga. (Oct. 22, 2024) - The Point University Volleyball team returned to the court for an evening Southern States Athletic Conference matchup against Middle Georgia State University, where the Skyhawks won over the Knights in a sweep.
Point opened Set One with Ava Clay and Kayla Johnson adding multiple kills to set the tone for Point's offense. As the Knights looked to match the intensity, Claire Cordell halted Middle Georgia's momentum with a kill, which was followed by Ava Clay and Kayla Johnson adding to the lead with two of their own. Middle Georgia could not find answers with multiple attack errors, followed by the offensive firepower in set one from Point. Going into set two, Middle Georgia looked to wipe away the momentum from Point as the Knights took the lead on a 5-1 run. A kill and service ace from Ava Clay flipped the lead back into the Skyhawks' favor to follow with an assisted block from Kayla Johnson and Abigail Hardwick. The Knights responded by capitalizing from the errors of Point, followed by a solo block to tie the set at 12-12. Two errors from the Knights and kills from Tianna Kynard and Ava Clay boosted Point's lead back to 20-13. Middle Georgia looked to make a comeback in the set, but kills from Abigail Hardwick and Kayla Johnson put the Skyhawks ahead by two sets. Set three opened with Point continuing their approach to attack as Kayla Johnson and Abigail Hardwick led with contributions. Point looked to cruise through the set with three consecutive kills from Abigail Hardwick and a service ace from Jordan Palmer, pushing their lead to 19-10. Middle Georgia went on a late 10-3 run to take away the double-digit lead from the Skyhawks and add some interest into set three with a 24-23 score. As the Knights looked to steal the set, Paige Lowe set up Ava Clay in the perfect spot to end the match in a sweep.

Kayla Johnson led the Skyhawks with 11 kills, four blocks, and one dig. Abigail Hardwick followed with 10 kills, four blocks, and three digs. Paige Lowe added a double-double with 34 assists and 11 digs. Defensively, Jordan Palmer added 15 digs, putting her seven digs shy of the All-Time Digs record in program history.
