Point Volleyball sweeps Stillman and Truett McConnell on Day One of the Talladega Tournament

TALLADEGA, Ala. (Aug. 30, 2024) -The Point University Volleyball Team returned to the court for the Talladega College Tournament where the Skyhawks took on Stillman College and Truett McConnell University on Day One. Point ultimately swept both teams while displaying dominance from each player.  

Day One: vs. Stillman College (25-12, 25-10, 25-15, Win) 

In the first set, Multiple attack errors from the Tigers helped the Skyhawks take an early 5-0 lead. Point's offense began to show their firepower at the neutral site as Tianna Kynard, Abigail Hardwick, and Jasmyn Ceasar added consecutive kills. Point continued to pressure the Tigers as the Skyhawks' momentum surged them through the first set with an 11-2 run. The Skyhawks entered Set Two with continued momentum capitalizing on Stillman's errors and Point's offense continuing to soar past the Tigers with multiple kills. Point finished the second set with Jadakate Judkins, Jasmyn Ceasar, and Abigail Hardwick firing past Stillman on the offensive end. Stillman entered Set Three with an early 8-4 lead with hopes of wiping away Point's momentum. A kill from Angel Johnson, errors from Stillman, and a service ace from Lexi Arter tied the game at eight a piece. The Tigers looked to keep up with Point's firepower but an 11-2 run from Point surged the Skyhawks ahead to a 20-12 lead. The Tigers were unable to keep up with the focus of the Skyhawks as Point ended the set with a sweep over Stillman. 

Day One: vs. Truett McConnell University (25-14, 25-19, 27-25, Win) 

Point entered the first set with momentum on their side and displayed offensive versatility through each set. Angel Johnson led with eight kills through the match and made her impact against the Bears. Kayla Johnson followed with five kills and one block to help neutralize Truett McConnell from outdueling the Skyhawks. Tianna Kynard's three kills and five blocks added to the pressure felt by the Bears throughout the outing. The Skyhawks were determined to make the Bears' attackers earn each point as Jordan Palmer led with 14 digs, one service ace, and seven assists. Lexi Arter added a much-needed contribution to the sweep as she entered the record books tying second for the most Service Aces in a match with eight total. The Skyhawks outdueled the Bears offensively as Point hit .234%, added 32 assists, and contributed 10 service aces. Errors from Truett McConnell halted their momentum through the three sets as the Bears added 19 errors compared to Point's 13.

Point University Volleyball will continue to play at the Talladega College Tournament on Saturday, August 31 for Day Two against Johnson University and Talladega College. The match against the Royals begins at 11:00 A.M. with the second match scheduled for 3:00 P.M.
