Point Volleyball secures road SSAC win against Life

MARIETTA, Ga. (Nov. 3, 2023) - The Point University Volleyball team took the court for their final regular-season matchup in a Southern States Athletic Conference matchup against Life University where the Skyhawks won in a sweep 3-0. 

Set One (25-19, Win) 

The first set began with the Skyhawks leading 6-3 which helped set up Aaliyah Lobendahn adding a kill which was followed by Claire Cordell adding a kill as well. The Skyhawks continued to keep Life guessing as Sameily Marquez added another kill to extend the lead. Life's errors continued to add up as they added an attack error which was followed by Claire Cordell along with a service ace from Sameily Marquez. Life added three consecutive scores to cut Point's lead to 17-14. Point returned the favor with three consecutive scores to lead 21-16. The Skyhawks held off the late run from Life as Jadakate Judkins added the final kill to win 25-19. 

Set Two (25-19, Win) 

The Skyhawks came into the second set with 6-2 lead as Sameily Marquez added a kill which was followed by a block from Jadakate Judkins and Aaliyah Lobendahn and kills from Aaliyah Lobendahn and Claire Cordell. Life retaliated by adding the following eight scores to lead 9-8. The Skyhawks responded to regain the lead and a 4-1 run. The set continued to go back and forth until the Skyhawks added a 6-1 run with Tianna Kynard and two consecutive kills. Point held off the Running Eagles to win the set 25-19. 

Set Three (25-23, Win) 

The third set was do or die for both teams continued to fight back and forth as the Skyhawks took the 10-5 lead. Point added to their lead with a kill from Sameily Marquez along with Jadakate Judkins following with a kill as well. Life responded with three scores to trail by two but Point held onto their lead as Tianna Kynard secured kills along with a block from Tianna Kynard and Claire Cordell. The Running Eagles added a 5-0 run to tie the game at 18 with hopes of taking the driver's seat. Tianna Kynard responded with a kill which was followed by one from Jadakate Judkins. Point continued to hold their lead along with taking the sweep as Sameily Marquez and Claire Cordell secured the kills to end the match. 

In the Box 

Claire Cordell led with nine kills and seven digs. Aaliyah Lobendahn followed with seven kills and one block. Sameily Marquez added six kills and nine digs for Point. Paige Lowe added 26 assists for the Skyhawks and Jordan Palmer added 12 digs.

Point has wrapped up the Regular season and will now turn their attention to the SSAC Tournament in Montgomery, Alabama which begins on Thursday, November 9th.
