Point Volleyball ices the Firehawks in a sweep

WEST POINT, Ga. (Oct. 7, 2023) - The Point University Volleyball team took the court for their Saturday matchup against Tennessee Southern in a Southern States Matchup where the Skyhawks took the sweep for the Firehawks. 

Set One (25-23, Win) 

The Skyhawks started with the first two scores as UT Southern made an attack error followed by a kill from Jadakate Judkins. The Firehawks fired back with three scores to take the 3-2 lead. Claire Cordell and Jadakate Judkins responded with two fiery kills to help Point regain the lead by one. UT Southern went on an 8-1 run, which caused the Skyhawks to go into a timeout. The timeout paid dividends as Sameily Marquez sprang for the following two kills, starting Point to regain their focus. UT Southern further the offense by adding scores, but Point took the quick 4-0 run to move their deficit to one. The Skyhawks continued to elevate by taking the lead with another run, bringing the score to 18-16. The set continued back to back in scoring as Sameily Marquez and Paige Lowe scored 23-22. As UT Southern tied it at 23, Jadakate Judkins helped the Skyhawks finish the set with the final two kills to win 25-23. 

Set Two (25-15, Win) 

The Skyhawks carried their momentum to the second set to start with a 9-3 lead. Point's offense played a key role of firing on all cylinders as Paige Lowe and Sameily Marquez extended the lead to 11-5. The Firehawks started to catch their rhythm by bringing their deficit to four. However, a kill from Sam Marquez and a service ace from Emma Parker helped create a 6-1 run to get the score to 21-12. The Firehawks took the next three scores with hopes of a late comeback, but the energy from the Skyhawks helped not allow another score from UT Southern. Point finished the set with a kill from Jadakate Judkins, two blocks from Judkins and Aaliyah Lobendahn, and the following block from Jadakate Judkins and Claire Cordell.  

Set Three (25-6, Win) 

Point came into the third set by continuing to play as a unit, starting with a 9-2 lead. Two Service Aces from Lexi Arter, a kill from Sameily Marquez and errors from the Firehawks gave Point a 15-2 lead. The unity of Point continued to strike together as Ava Clay and Tianna Kynard added fuel to the fire with kills. The fiery attacks from Kristina Faison, two service aces from Jordan Palmer, and a kill from Jadakate Judkins helped the Skyhakks secure the sweep over UT Southern in the West Point Gym. 

In the Box 

Sameily Marquez led the charge with 11 kills and nine digs. Tianna Kynard and Jadakate Judkins followed with eight kills each. Paige Lowe finished with a double-double of 24 assists and 10 digs.
