Volleyball gets first win, but fall short in the Running Eagle Classic going 1-2 on the weekend

MARIETTA, Ga. (Aug. 26, 2023) - The Point University volleyball team would open up their 2023 season at the Running Eagle Classic, hosted by Life University. The Skyhawks would go 1-2 on the weekend by winning the first match on Friday 3-2 against Brenau but falling to Lindsey Wilson and Keiser by 3-0 on Saturday.
 
Match 1: Brenau (GA) vs. Point (Aug. 25, 2023) - The intense volleyball showdown between Brenau (GA) and Point kept the audience on the edge of their seats. Both teams displayed remarkable skill and determination throughout the match, resulting in a nail-biting contest that went down to the wire. Point secured a hard-fought victory in the fifth set with a final score of 3-2. Exhilarating rallies and exceptional plays on both sides characterized the match. Brenau's starters demonstrated their prowess, including Laila Reed, Mary Ellen Enright, Madison McCollough, Malone Davis, Gabrielle Hogle, and Chloe Bennett. Point's starting lineup comprised Tianna Kynard, Jadakate Judkins, Paige Lowe, Aaliyah Lobendahn, Sameily Marquez, and Ava Clay. The first set saw a commanding performance from Brenau, with Gabrielle Hogle leading the charge. The team claimed the set with a score of 25-15.
However, Point quickly rebounded in the second set, narrowly securing it with a score of 26-24. The third set was another closely contested battle, with Brenau again prevailing with a score of 25-21. Point showcased their resilience in the fourth set, edging out a thrilling victory with an intense score of 31-29. The match climaxed in the fifth set, where both teams fought valiantly. Ultimately, Point emerged victorious, claiming the set with a score of 15-10. The match was filled with standout plays and pivotal moments. Gabrielle Hogle's exceptional attacking and service aces propelled Brenau's momentum, while Point's players, including Paige Lowe and  Aaliyah Lobendahn, showcased their skills in crucial situations. The match's intensity and dramatic turns captured the essence of competitive volleyball. Both teams displayed tremendous sportsmanship and showcased their commitment to the game. The back-and-forth nature of the match kept fans engaged and cheering for their respective teams until the final point. Point secured a hard-fought victory in the end, but both teams left the court with heads held high, delivering an exceptional display of volleyball prowess and determination.

Match 2: Lindsey Wilson vs. Point (Aug 26, 2023) - In their second-weekend match, the Skyhawks faced off against Lindsey Wilson, resulting in a 3-0 victory for Lindsey Wilson. Despite the scoreline, the game showcased both teams' skills and determination. The set scores of 25-19, 25-14, and a closely contested 31-29 reflected the competitive nature of the match. The opening set witnessed a spirited battle, with Lindsey Wilson leading. However, Point University managed to maintain its ground with standout plays, including a kill by Claire Cordell and an impressive service ace by Paige Lowe. The second set saw Lindsey Wilson maintaining dominance, with exceptional plays by Aleksandra Wyrzykowska and Natalie Ackermann. Despite Point's efforts, Lindsey Wilson secured the set with a score of 25-14. The third set proved to be a thrilling contest, with both teams striving to gain an advantage. The closely fought set highlighted the competitive spirit of the players, with standout moments including kills by Sameily Marquez and Claire Cordell for Point University.

Match 3: Keiser vs. Point (Aug 26, 2023) - In their third match, Point University faced off against Keiser University, resulting in a decisive 3-0 victory for Keiser. The set scores of 25-10, 25-11, and 25-6 showcased Keiser's dominant performance throughout the match. Keiser demonstrated their prowess from the outset, taking an early lead in the first set. Gabrielle Levesque led the charge with powerful kills and a service ace, setting the tone for Keiser's strong start. The second set followed a similar pattern, with Keiser displaying their offensive and defensive prowess. The team's effective coordination and strategic plays secured another commanding win. The third set saw Keiser's dominance reach its peak as they showcased exceptional teamwork and skill. The team's relentless attacking, led by players like Brooklynn Slater and Hannah Heide, left Point University struggling to respond. Throughout the match, Keiser's players displayed remarkable accuracy and consistency in their attacks and solid defensive plays. While Point University put up a fight, Keiser's strong performance secured them a convincing victory.

Next Match: The volleyball team will head to Brunswick, Ga., next weekend, home of Coastal Georgia, for four matches. Friday's action will start at 10:00 A.M. against Brewton-Parker and follow with a 2:00 P.M. match against Florida National. The Skyhawks will start things on Saturday at 1:00 P.M. when they take on the host, Coastal Georgia, and play former AAC foe Montreat at 4:00 P.M.
