Skyhawks taken down in a sweep versus Brenau

WEST POINT, Ga. (Nov. 1, 2022) - The Point University volleyball team returned to West Point Park Gymnasium for their final home game and the regular season of the year 2022 season against Brenau University on Tuesday night and fell to the Golden Tigers in a sweep. 

Play-by-Play (25-22, 25-19, 25-22) 

Both teams started off trading scores, but Brenau took their first lead after three attack errors from the Skyhawks. A kill from the Golden Tigers pushed their lead to 10-6 until Mackenzie Littrell retaliated with a kill which was followed by an attack error from Brenau. The Golden Tigers held on to their lead, but the Skyhawks continued to fight their way through the set as Kelsey Turner tallied two kills in a row, with Sarah Baucham contributing one as well. With the score being 16-12, Brenau added to their score with a service ace and tallied another kill to keep their lead at four. An attack error from the Golden Tigers and a service ace from Claire Cordell gave the Skyhawks the next two scores to now trail 17-15. As Brenau held their lead through the set, Point went on a 3-0 run after a service error from Brenau, a kill from Kelsey Turner, and a block from Jadakate Judkins and Abigail Hardwick to now take the lead 21-20. The Golden Tigers did not stay down for long as Mary Ellen Enright responded with a kill to tie the game at 21. An attack error put Point back in the lead, but the Golden Eagles took the next three scores to win the first set. 

The Skyhawks started the second set with a quick 5-0 lead which forced the Golden Tigers to take a quick timeout. Brenau gathered their focus to add the next six scores, which put them ahead by one point. After the timeout from the Skyhawks, Kelsey Turner rallied her team with a kill which was then followed by an attack error from Brenau. The Golden Tigers wiped off their last error by taking the next three scores to now lead 10-7. An attack error gave Point the next score, but a kill and a service ace from the visiting team of Brenau put them ahead by four. Abigail Hardwick helped keep the Skyhawks in the game with a kill of her own. The Skyhawks continued to slow down the Golden Tigers by going on a 6-2 run to tie the game at 17. Brenau came out of their timeout on a mission as they racked three kills to add three scores to their name. A service error from Point was added, which helped Brenau move ahead by three. Abigail Hardwick responded with a kill, but Brenau duplicated their success from the first set by ending their set on a run to now be ahead by two sets. 

Errors from Brenau and a kill by Claire Cordell helped the Skyhawks start the third set with a 6-2 lead. Sarah Baucham entered the fray with a kill which was followed by a service ace from Jordan Palmer to add two more scores. Brenau's cold start was outdueled by the Skyhawks' fiery offense as Abigail Hardwick helped add two more points for the Skyhawks to push their lead to 11-5. After Brenau's timeout, an attack error from the Golden Tigers was followed by a kill from Claire Cordell, along with a service ace from Kristina Faison. Brenau started to come alive as the next five scores went to their respective side. With the score now 14-11, the Golden Tigers kept clawing their way back into the set, which showed success as Mary Ellen Enright added the next two scores for Brenau. Kelsey Turner responded to push the Skyhawks' lead to 16-13, but Brenau got the upper hand with a 4-0 run to take the lead 17-16. Their lead did not last long as the Golden Tigers added three errors on offense, along with a block from Sameily Marquez which pushed the Skyhawks back to a three-point lead. Brenau did not go away fast as they added a kill on their side, along with the Skyhawks' tallying two errors to tie the game at 20. Jadakate Judkins put the Skyhawks back in the lead, but Brenau elevated with three scores in a row to now lead by two. Sameily Marquez helped Point get their next score with a kill from her, but the Golden Tigers finished the set with the last two scores to win in a sweep. 

In the box 

Abigail Hardwick and Kelsey Turner both added six kills each for the Skyhawks. Mackenzie Littrell contributed five kills. Paige Lowe dished out 23 assists for Point on the evening and added nine digs. Jordan Palmer led with 13 digs on the defensive side for Point. 

Up next 

The Skyhawks have completed their regular season and will gear up for AAC Tournament play which starts on Thursday, Nov. 10, and will last until Saturday, Nov. 12. The tournament will be held at the MeadowView Marriott in Kingsport, Tenn.
