COLUMBIA, S.C. (Sept. 10, 2022) – The Point University volleyball team traveled to Columbia, South Carolina, to face Columbia International in an Appalachian Athletic Conference match, followed by a nonconference match with Keiser. The Skyhawks met CIU first and fell 3-0 before facing Keiser and falling 3-1.
Point vs. CIU 0-3 (25-19, 25-17, 25-16)
The Skyhawks looked to upset the 2021 AAC Champions, but their efforts came up short as CIU picked up the victory in dominating fashion.
The Skyhawks were led in kills by Sameily Marquez (nine), Mya Sterling (seven), and Keylany Matos (six). Paige Lowe had 26 assists, and Whitney Ward led Point with 16 digs.
Point vs. Keiser 1-3 (25-20, 15-25, 14-25, 16-25)
Looking to bounce back from game one, the Skyhawks opened their match with a set one victory but fell in the following three sets to drop their second match of the day.
Keiser scored the first three points of the set before Point answered with a 10-3 run to go ahead 10-6. Point would remain in the lead for the rest of the set to take a 1-0 lead.
In the second set, a kill from Lowe would help the Skyhawks tie the set 1-1, but Point was unable to take the lead, as Keiser led for the remainder of the set.
Both teams were back-and-forth to open the third set. The Skyhawks tied the set 8-8, but the Seahawks limited Point to only six more points, as they went on to take a 2-1 match lead.
Point opened the fourth set looking to send the match into a fifth set as back-to-back kills from Baucham and Marquez helped the Skyhawks take a 6-3 lead. This would, however, be the Skyhawks' largest lead of the set, as Keiser bounced back and closed the set on a 7-1 run to earn the match victory.
Baucham and Marquez led Point in kills with nine and eight, respectively. Lowe had 30 assists, and Jordan Palmer and Daixa Andujo led Point with 12 and 10 digs, respectively.
