Point bounces back with sweep over Columbia

COLUMBIA, S.C. (Oct. 9, 2021) – The Point University volleyball team bounced back from a tough loss Friday with a big win over Columbia College in an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup Saturday afternoon. The Skyhawks dominated the entire match, winning 25-14, 25-21, 25-14.

With Saturday's win, Point advances to 10-10 (7-5 AAC).

In the box, Te'a Owens recorded a game-high of 15 kills and finished with a .387 kill percentage. Owens was followed by Sarah Baucham and Kelsey Turner with seven kills apiece. Kaitlyn Hawke recorded another double-double with 21 assists and 11 digs. Audrey Blaschke led Point's defense with 13 digs.

Columbia jumped out to an early 4-0 lead to start the match, but the Skyhawks bounced back, limiting the Koalas to only two more points to earn the set opening victory. In the second set, Columbia held an early 2-1 lead, but that would be their only lead as an ace from Whitney Ward would help the Skyhawks take a 3-2 lead and Point would not trail for the remainder of the set. Seventeen of the Skyhawks' points in the second set came from kills.

Leading 2-0, Point carried its dominance into the third set, jumping out to a 9-2 lead and closing the match out on a 4-0 run.

Next, Point returns home for another AAC matchup against in-state rival Truett McConnell on Tuesday, Oct. 12. Game time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
