Point falls in three sets to CIU

COLUMBIA, S.C. (Oct. 8, 2021) – The Point University volleyball team traveled to face Columbia International in hopes of earning a win and splitting the regular-season series, but the Skyhawks' efforts came up short, as they fell to the Rams in three straight sets (25-12, 25-11, 25-21).

With the loss, Point's record fell to 9-10 (6-4 AAC), and CIU advanced to 18-6 (10-1 AAC).

CIU started the game by jumping out to a 3-1 lead and never let up, holding the Skyhawks to 12 points and the Rams closed the set out on a 9-1 run.

In the second set, Point took an early 6-2 lead, but CIU swiftly gained the momentum as they took charge of the set, going on a 19-1 run and taking a 2-0 match lead.

In the third set, Point maintained control for majority of the set, leading 20-16, before the Rams went on a late run to regain the lead and close the match on another 9-1 run.

Te'a Owens led Point's offense with seven kills, and Kaitlyn Hawke recorded a double-double with 16 assists and 10 digs. Madison Bentley and Owens followed Hawke in defense with nine and eight digs, respectively.
