Skyhawks drop road contest to TMU

CLEVELAND, Ga. (Sept. 14, 2021) – The Point University volleyball team traveled to Truett McConnell Tuesday afternoon for an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup and fell to the Bears in four sets, 15-25, 25-22, 15-25, 15-25.

Truett McConnell took an early six-point lead, fueled by a 6-2 run, which the Skyhawks were unable to cut down on, and TMU took an early 1-0 lead.

In the second set, both teams were back-and-forth as there were seven ties and six lead changes. With the score tied at 13, a kill by Sarah Baucham would spark a Skyhawk run and help Point take a 17-13 lead. The Skyhawks would hold on to the lead for the rest of the set, tying the match 1-1.

TMU would go on to win the following two sets by a 10-point triumph in each set despite Point's second set comeback.

Individually, Baucham had eight kills (.316), as did Te'a Owens. Whitney Ward had a team-high of 18 digs, and Point's offense was anchored by Audrey Blaschke with 17 assists and Abby Solomon with 14.

With Tuesday's loss, the Skyhawks fall to 4-6 overall and 1-1 in AAC play.

Up next, the Skyhawks continue their AAC road tour, first facing the Knights of Kentucky Christian in Grayson, Kentucky, on Friday, Sept. 17, at 6:30 p.m., before traveling to Bluefield on Saturday for a 10 a.m. matchup.

Fans are not permitted to attend either match at KCU or Bluefield due to COVID-19 protocols.
