WEST POINT, Ga. (Aug. 4, 2023) - The Point University Men’s and Women’s Tennis team have released their schedule for the 2023-2024 season. The Skyhawks look to return to the court with an identity of competing against whoever is across from them. The Men’s Tennis team is coming off a 3-8 season where they appeared in the AAC Tournament and had accolades of Louis Van Camp winning Champions of Character along with Khalen Wimes earning a spot on the All-Academic team. The Women’s Tennis team is coming off a 2-10 season but did not make the AAC Tournament. Lauren Perez and Destinee Claggion did earn accolades for the Women’s Tennis team as Perez earned a spot on the All-Freshman team, along with Claggion earning a spot on the All-Academic Team.  Both teams will transition to the Southern States Athletic Conference with Head Coach William Riley leading the charge. His will to want to have his players compete and bring intensity can help elevate the culture of the Point University Tennis program.

The season will begin with some fall competition as both teams head to Lawrenceville, Georgia, for the ITA Regionals, which will take place from September 14th through September 17th. For the Men’s Tennis team, this will be the only fall competition that will take place for them. For the women’s team, the Skyhawks will have one more time to compete as they travel to Americus, Georgia, to take on Georgia Southwestern. The fall competitions should be able to see where Coach Riley’s team will need to build off of along with improving. The Women’s Tennis team will be the first between both teams to have action on the court to start the spring as Point takes on West Georgia on the road on February 3rd. The momentum for both teams will shift in the spring as the Skyhawks travel to Mobile, Alabama, to take on the University of Mobile on March 22nd and Dillard University on March 24th. The Skyhawks will spend the next few matches in Montgomery, Alabama, for round-robin play as both teams take on William Carey on April 5th and Loyola-New Orleans on April 6th. The competition in the Alabama state capital will continue on April 12th as the Skyhawks take on UT Southern on April 12th and Blue Mountain Christian University on April 13th. Point will return to their home state in Georgia for a quick nonconference matchup against NCAA Division III school Lagrange College on April 22nd, the last regular season matchup. Both teams will return to Montgomery, Alabama, for the SSAC Tournament, which will take place on April 25th and April 26th. The Point University Men’s and Women’s Tennis teams look forward to elevating their program and showing that they are a force to be reckoned with.
