Women’s Soccer unable to overcome the Nighthawks’ fiery second half

WEST POINT, Ga. (Oct. 9, 2024)—The Point University Women's Soccer team returned to the pitch for an afternoon Southern States Athletic Conference match against Thomas University. The Skyhawks fell to the Nighthawks with a final score of 4-2. 

The Skyhawks first opened within the scoring column as Bailey Turner connected with Isabella Frullaney to surge for the first goal. As Point looked to build their momentum, Cassidy Harrell found the perfect spot for Brooke Wiseley to find the net to push the Skyhawks' lead to 2-0. Thomas looked to respond before the half as the Nighthawks converted their first goal to go into halftime trailing 2-1.  

The action picked up in the second half, with the Nighthawks changing the landscape of the match with a game-tying goal. Point looked to regain their momentum with multiple shots on goal but could not convert their chances. Thomas took their first lead of the game as Kaitlyn Herb scored her second goal of the match. As the Skyhawks regained their composure, the Nighthawks made it tough for Point as Thomas scored the final goal of the match to steal the game with a final score of 4-2. 

In the Box 

Thomas outshot the Skyhawks with 23 shots total, with 11 on goal compared to Point's eight total shots and four on goal. Isabella Frullaney and Brooke Wiseley each scored a goal for the Skyhawks. Jaynee Malcolm made the start as the keeper and tallied seven saves.

The Women's Soccer team will return to the pitch for an SSAC Contest against Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College on Saturday, October 12th, starting at 2:00 P.M. Saturday's match will also serve as Senior Day for the Women's Soccer program, and the Skyhawks will honor their Seniors at 1:30 P.M. during pregame.
