Bailey Turner’s late goal helps the Skyhawks avoid the loss at River Bowl

WEST POINT, Ga. (Sept. 7, 2023) - The Point University Women's Soccer returned to the pitch for a non-conference matchup against NCAA Division III, Lagrange College for a Battle of Troup County match at the River Bowl Stadium where the hard-fought game ended in a draw with a final score of 2-2.

The first half started with both teams looking to establish their offense, which saw Point get the upper hand by taking the 1-0 lead after scoring the first goal. The Panthers did not take long to retaliate as Lagrange responded with a fierce goal to even the score at one. With nearly five minutes left in the half, Lagrange continued their offensive attack, which worked in their favor to score their second goal of the game to lead 2-1 going into the half.

The second half saw Point elevate their play to another level at the River Bowl Stadium as their offense leaped by taking more shots to keep the Panthers on their toes. The Skyhawks continued to test their luck with near makes that would have switched the game's momentum but were unable to fall. Point's offense was not the only side that looked different as defensively, the Skyhawks emptied the tank in the second half and would not allow any shots from Lagrange. With under four minutes left in the match, Bailey Turner made her River Bowl moment special as she took the opportunity on the open shot to score, which tied the game at two. As time winded down in the final minute, Point continued to halt the Panthers and looked to take their chances on the game-winner, but the hard-fought match ended in a draw.
