First non-conference road game results in a draw against the Royals for Women’s Soccer

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Sept. 2, 2023) - The Point University women's soccer team returned to the pitch for a nonconference matchup against the Johnson University Royals, where the Skyhawks ended the matchup in a draw with a final score of 2-2.

The first half started with the Royals taking the early lead with a penalty kick goal, but the Skyhawks proved to be ready to respond. In duplicate fashion from the Trinity Baptist matchup, Point scored their first goal of the game with a corner kick goal by Andrea Rodriguez. Johnson continued to put Point's defense on their heels as the Royals tacked on their second goal of the evening to lead 2-1. The Skyhawks looked to try to respond as their offense started to challenge the defense of Johnson, but their shots on goal would not fall through, which kept the Royals ahead as both teams went into the half.

The second half picked up with the Royals looking to hold the lead to knock off their former Appalachian Athletic Conference foe dramatically. As the half went on, Johnson's offense slowed as Point adjusted not to allow another score from the Royals. Chiara Zaccagnino connected with Alyssa Bennett to score their second goal of the matchup to tie it at two. With both teams looking to gain the upper hand, the shots on goal picked up for both teams as each player on offense looked to try to take the game heroically. The toughness from both teams saw the Skyhawks tie with Johnson for the draw to bring Point to 1-1-1 on the season.
