Women's Soccer handed first loss at home by Brenau

WEST POINT, Ga. (Aug. 26, 2023) - The Point University women's soccer hosted Brenau at River Bowl Stadium on Saturday night. This matchup would be the second match of the season for the women's soccer team and the second time on their home pitch. The Skyhawks wouldn't be able to continue the magic from the home opener, as they would drop the match by a score of 4-0.

FIRST HALF

The game commenced with both teams eager to establish dominance on the field. Brenau struck first in the 19th minute when Camila Penagos capitalized on a brilliantly executed play engineered by Haley Wilton. This early goal injected momentum into Brenau's gameplay and set the tone for the rest of the half. In the 21st minute, the Skyhawks would get a shot off by Chiara Zaccagnino, but it would go wide of the goal. The Tigers would take a 1-0 lead into halftime. 

SECOND HALF

The second half unfolded with increased intensity as both teams sought to gain the upper hand. In the 63rd minute, Brenau extended their lead as Abigail Menjivar showcased her brilliance with an unassisted goal. The goal in the 63rd minute would make it a 2-0 lead for the Tigers. The Skyhawks would get another chance at a goal in the 78th minute when Bailey Turner had her shot go wide of the goal. As the match approached its conclusion, the 79th minute saw Sarah Clark score a goal for Brenau, showcasing her prowess on the field. Almost immediately after, Camila Penagos struck again, securing her second goal of the match and adding to Brenau's commanding 4-0 lead.

As the match neared its end, the Point University Skyhawks exhibited commendable tenacity, launching a series of attacking moves to narrow the scoreline. However, Brenau's steadfast defense and astute goalkeeping thwarted the Skyhawks' endeavors, preserving their clean sheet. The match concluded with a decisive 4-0 victory for Brenau. The result underscored their cohesive teamwork, clinical finishing, and resolute defensive efforts.
