Women’s Soccer lights up the River Bowl in the 4-2 win over the Eagles

WEST POINT, Ga. (Aug. 24, 2023)- The Point University Women's soccer team opened their 2023 regular season at the River Bowl Stadium in the home opener against Trinity Baptist College for a nonconference battle where the Skyhawks took the win 4-2. 

Point got their offense going in the first minute when Lauren Grant scored her first collegiate goal in the first 1:57 of the match. The Eagles looked to fire back on offense, but Point's defense did not allow Trinity Baptist to take control of their offensive attack, which forced the quick 1-0 shutout in the first half. 

The action picked in the second half as Lauren Grant duplicated her quick scoring attack to make the River Bowl Stadium roar as the Skyhawks took a 2-0 lead. Point started to settle into their offense, which made the Eagles uncomfortable on the defensive end, which resulted in a foul on Trinity Baptist. Anyadi Colmenaries made her moment count as she scored on the penalty kick to extend the lead to 3-0. The Skyhawks continued to try to up the ante on the field as their shot-on-goal attempts rose but could not successfully come away with another score for the next few minutes. Trinity Baptist started to take their goal attempts but could not find the scoring range. As the second half continued, Cassidy Harrell looked to take a corner kick, which turned into a big roar from the Skyhawk bench and the entire stadium as her corner kick resulted in her first goal as a Skyhawk. The Eagles avoided the shutout by scoring their first point of an own goal and following up with a made penalty kick to bring the score 4-2. The Skyhawks would not allow another goal from Trinity Baptist to take the win on their home field. 

In the box 

Point took 24 total shots with 12 on goal compared to the Eagles' eight shots and four on goal. Lauren Grant scored two goals for the Skyhawks, with Anyadi Colmenaries adding one scored goal. Cassidy Harrell also contributed one goal in the contest. Ari Roca added two saves on the evening for the Skyhawks.
